Standup

Group Sizeโ€‹

At startups, this can be company-wide. At larger companies it should be focused on the builders of the project, plus the team lead.

Goalโ€‹

The most important task is Setting (or re-stating the existing) Goal for the week. This should not change each day, but its repeated at the beginning to remind people to stay focused as a group.

  • Anything notable to share from yesterday? (often nothing to share most days)
  • What are you working on today?
  • Any blockers?
    • Need input from another person before you can proceed?
    • Any time off or distractions preventing you from completing tasks?

Wrap Upโ€‹

Adjust any tasks to better align with priorities.

Team Building

If you are a new team it may be a good idea to start standup with an icebreaker. I like to use the "question of the day" that folks have to answer as part of their turn in standup.

  • What was your favorite vacation spot growing up?
  • What did you want to be as a kid?
  • Which sport is your LEAST favorite to watch?
